Five people shot in Elgin

Five people were injured in a shooting early yesterday morning in Elgin. About 3:10 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of North Street for a reported shooting and found four victims, who were taken to Sherman and Presence Saint Joseph hospitals. Their injuries were not considered life threatening, police said. Full story.

Baby sugar glider stolen from S. Elgin pet shop

A South Elgin pet store is hoping for the return of a baby sugar glider taken from the store at the end of last week. Sugar gliders, which are marsupials native to Australia, are like little flying squirrels. The workers at Critters Pet Shop are concerned because the baby has not been weaned and will not survive if it is separated from its mother. Full story.

Leukemia foundation sponsors kids’ party in Addison

For many of the roughly 50 kids who partied yesterday afternoon at Dave & Buster’s in Addison, it’s not unusual to spend a lot of time visiting doctors or undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments. But for a few hours, at least, they just got to be kids, playing arcade games, dressing up for a photo booth and maybe tackling an arts and crafts project. Full story.

Cubby Bear reportedly closed in Lincolnshire

There are reports that the Cubby Bear North in Lincolnshire closed recently. A worker at the Cubby Bear Chicago location confirmed the Lincolnshire location had closed, but provided no further comment. Multiple posts by customers on a Cubby Bear North Facebook page and Yelp.com also state that the bar is now closed. Full story.

Items too close to water heater cause Aurora fire

Two families have been displaced after items stored too close to a water heater started a fire in Aurora Saturday night, according to a news release. Firefighters from the Aurora Fire Department responded around 7:30 p.m. to a fire in a two-unit apartment building on the 600 block of High Street, according to officials. Upon arrival, they found smoke and a small fire in the basement. Full story.

Bears fire 2 assistants, but Tucker will be back

Coordinator Mel Tucker will not lose his job after his defense turned in one of the worst performances in Bears history, but two of his position coaches will not be back.
