Schaumburg issues alert of gas station robber

Schaumburg police issued a community alert Thursday for a suspect believed to be responsible for as many as 15 armed robberies throughout the North and Northwest suburbs.

One Nov. 5 robbery occurred in Schaumburg itself, but the remainder have occurred throughout the suburbs from Oct. 20 through Nov. 11.

Schaumburg police said the offender generally targets gas stations. He wears a black hooded sweatshirt that covers his face, displays a black handgun and demands money and Newport cigarettes.

Employees of gas stations and similar establishments are being asked to remain vigilant of suspicious persons loitering nearby and should attempt to greet and make eye contact with everyone entering their businesses.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the Schaumburg Police Department Investigations Division at (847) 882-3534 or email investigations@ci.schaumburg.il.us.
