Fundraiser for Round Lake drowning victim

A fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Designs on You, 33277 N. Route 45 in Wildwood in memory of Mia Cardenas of Round Lake. On Aug. 27, the nine-year old was wading with family and friends in Fox Lake when she went under and drowned. She was a cheerleader for the Lake County Stallions and a student at Fremont Intermediate School and loved cheer, art and the color pink. Fundraising activities include goody bags for the first 25 people, raffles, door prizes, a live WXLC radio broadcast, food and meet and greet with the College of Lake County cheerleaders. Fliers concerning water safety also will be distributed. Admission is $10 for an adult and two children. All proceeds will go directly to help pay outstanding funeral costs and Designs on You will donate 20 percent of all sales. An online fundraiser also has been active on giveforward.com.
