North Maine Fire Department to hold open house

The North Maine Fire Department is hosting its annual open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, to commemorate its 45 years of service to the community.

The fire station is at 9301 Potter Road in unincorporated Maine Township; parking will be across the street in the Chicago Mar Thoma Church parking lot.

Various municipal support agencies will have displays and equipment set up for viewing and can answer questions that you may have regarding their respective agency.

A Side-by-Side Burn Demonstration Unit featuring actual rooms with contents will show the value of residential fire sprinklers and how they save lives and conserve property when a fire starts. Only one demo will be performed at 1 p.m.

Additional events include displays by Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Golf Maine Park District, MaineStay Youth and Family Services, Nicor Gas, Cook County Sheriff’s Police, an auto extrication demonstration at noon, The Home Depot Kids Corner Projects, and the MESS Canteen will be serving hot dogs, chips and refreshments.

Everyone who attends will learn about fire safety and other important safety messages from the other organizations. Remember Fire Prevention Week 2013 is Oct. 6-12. This year’s theme is “Let’s Get Cooking with Fire Safety.”
