At least one killed in Rt. 83 crash

The Lake County sheriff’s office has confirmed there was one fatality in an accident on northbound Route 83 at Westmoreland Road near Long Grove. The victim has been identified by the sheriff’s office as the female driver of a 2011 Honda CR-V. The sheriff’s office said the woman died at the scene. Full story.

New CTA, Pace fare system called Ventra begins Monday

Metra review finds Schaffer didn’t leak harmful info to Clifford

Metra Director Jack Schaffer did not cross an ethical or legal line in forwarding confidential documents to ex-CEO Alex Clifford while Clifford’s contract was in limbo this spring, a review concludes. A brouhaha erupted last week after allegations that Schaffer had possibly leaked privileged information to Clifford that some said helped Clifford gain a $718,000 separation agreement. Full story.

Republican candidate announces bid to unseat Duckworth

Backers of an Aurora woman have announced her candidacy to seek the Republican nomination for the state’s 8th District congressional seat held by Democrat Tammy Duckworth. Manju Goel is the first candidate named by a national group led by Texas congressman Pete Sessions trying to field 10 Indian-American GOP congressional candidates, organizers said. Full story.

Schaumburg school gets gift of Chinese drums

A Chinese Immersion language program for a Schaumburg elementary school’s youngest kids has opened the door to a variety of cultural opportunities for the entire student body. Campanelli School yesterday received five new Chinese drums donated by the Taiwanese Overseas Compatriot Affairs Council, then students watched a performance on them by the accomplished players of the Westmont-based Cheng Da Drum Team.
