Boomers cap best-ever road trip with victory
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Schaumburg Boomers (45-30) capped the best road trip in team history by defeating the Evansville Otters 7-2 on Sunday. The Boomers, who are tied for first place in the Frontier League, played six games in four days and posted a 5-1 record.
The Boomers opened the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the third, the 12th consecutive game in which they scored first.
The Otters took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Boomers scored twice in the fifth, added a run in the seventh and 3 more in the ninth. Sean Mahley had an RBI single, Gerard Hall and Jordan Dean each had 2 hits and Dean and Keith Werman both scored twice.
Seth Webster struck out a career-high eight batters to win his second consecutive start. He worked 62⁄3 innings and scattered 5 hits. The rookie has thrown at least 6 innings in every start as a professional. Adam Tollefson pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Dexter Price recorded the final four outs to earn his 10th save.
The Boomers return home Tuesday to open a six-game homestand when they host the Rockford Aviators at 6:30 p.m..
