Schaumburg man charged with soliciting teen

Police charged a 49-year-old Schaumburg man with indecent solicitation of a 14-year-old girl.

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie on Thursday set bail at $250,000 for Michael J. Cozza, who is charged with indecent solicitation of a child and grooming. Grooming is defined as an attempt to seduce, lure or entice a child using social media or an online provider.

Cozza followed the girl on Twitter beginning July 26, and regularly messaged her on Facebook, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shilpa Patel.

Cozza messaged the teen to invite her to dinner on Aug. 2, Patel said. In another message, he invited the girl to stay at a hotel for the night, Patel said.

Patel said Cozza complimented the girl and his comments became increasingly explicit. The teen became uncomfortable and told her parents, who brought her to the police station, Patel said.

Marisie ordered Cozza to have no contact with his accuser, anyone else under 18 or his accuser's family.

Cozza, who has no criminal background, next appears in court on Aug. 29.
