Fire damages Mount Prospect coach house

No one was injured Sunday when fire swept through a coach house near Mount Prospect, causing an estimated $60,000 to $70,000 in damage.

Mount Prospect fire officials said the owner of a home in the 200 block of Woodland Drive called in the fire at 7:45 a.m. The owner told fire officials his dog alerted him to the fire, and he saw smoke coming from the structure, which was empty while undergoing remodeling.

Firefighters said it was fortunate that the house was near the Kensington Avenue fire station

and there was a shift change on there at the time so incoming and outgoing firefighters could be pressed into service.

The state fire marshal is helping to investigate the cause of the fire, officials said.
