G&W Electric honored by Illinois chamber

G&W Electric of Bolingbrook was one of three companies in Illinois to win a 2013 Edie Award for Economic Development from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and Illinois Development Council.

The “Edies” are presented annually to honor companies in the state that imagine, design, invest, build and bring jobs, growth and prosperity to Illinois communities.

G&W Electric has been a global supplier of electric power equipment since 1905. In 2012, the company finished relocating and expanding their headquarters, research & development, sales & marketing, and principal manufacturing from Blue Island to Bolingbrook. The company's foundry remains in Blue Island.

Company executives looked at other locations in and outside of Illinois but, with the help of the Will County Center for Economic Development, decided to rebuild in Bolingbrook. The new facility compromises more than 350,000 square feet and included a $20 million investment. Just as importantly, the site choice retained more than 300 quality jobs in Illinois and created 30 additional hires.

Other Edie winners were Dynegy, an independent power producer in Baldwin, and Gunite Corp., a manufacturer of wheel-end components for heavy-duty and medium-duty trucking, off-highway, bus markets and their related aftermarkets, based in Rockford.
