Boomers fall 9-3 to Normal

The Normal CornBelters scored 5 runs in the first inning and never looked back Thursday night on their way to a 9-3 victory over the host Schaumburg Boomers.

Normal grabbed a 3-0 lead four batters into the game on a bases-clearing double by Romulo Ruiz.

The Boomers responded with 2 runs in the bottom half on an RBI single from Chad Mozingo and a passed ball and brought the tying run to the plate but could pull no closer in the inning.

Ty Nelson doubled and scored in the fourth to bring Schaumburg within 5-3, but the CornBelters put the game away with 3 runs in the fifth, 2 on a home run from Ruiz.

Joe Parsons took the loss, pitching 6 innings and allowing 8 runs.

The loss halted a franchise best six-game home winning streak. The game also brought to an end a Boomers streak of five straight with 6 or more runs scored.

Schaumburg took two of three in the series.

The Evansville Otters visit Boomers Stadium to open a three-game series Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
