Boomers win fifth straight

The Schaumburg Boomers matched a franchise record with their fifth consecutive victory, requiring 12 innings to rally past the visiting Frontier Greys 5-4 on Tuesday night.

Sean Mahley recorded an opposite-field single with two strikes in the 12th to bring home Mike Demperio with the winning run. Schaumburg trailed 3-0 and 4-1 in the game, scoring 2 unearned runs in the seventh to even the game.

The 3-run deficit matches the largest comeback this year.

Danny Jimenez started and threw 6 innings, allowing 4 runs in a no-decision. Preston Hatcher tossed the 12th in his first home appearance to collect his first pro win.

The Boomers finished with 16 hits, a season high. Chad Mozingo had 4 hits.

Schaumburg is 5-0 in extra innings and owns 4 walk-off victories at home. The win vaulted the Boomers (18-11) into second place and within a game of first in the West Division.

The series continues with a Wednesday at 11 a.m. Right-hander Cody Griebling (3-2, 6.68) starts for the Boomers opposite righty Joe Zeller (3-3, 5.40).
