Mt. Prospect man dies after falling from roof
A Mount Prospect contractor described as hardworking and openhearted died Friday after falling off a roof he was working in Chicago.
Alfons Dzieszuta, a 55-year-old husband and father, died from multiple injuries he suffered from a fall at about 5 p.m. Friday while working in the 4400 block of North Bernard Street in Chicago, according to a report from the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which classified Dzieszuta’s death as an accident.
Dzieszuta had been working as a contractor since emigrating from Poland in 1981, said brother-in-law Jerzy Maniak, who described Dzieszuta as “a very good person with an open heart.”
“I still can’t believe what happened,” said Maniak who described Dzieszuta as a “very handy guy” who worked six days a week.
Although they were in-laws, Maniak said he thought of Dzieszuta as a brother.
“He was always open if someone asked for help,” he said.
Dzieszuta leaves behind a wife and a daughter who Maniak says turns 8 years old on Monday.
Funeral arrangement are pending.
