Tort reform needed in Obamacare

Gene Lyons makes good points about the astronomical costs of health care. However he does not address why these costs are so high.

The single biggest contributor to high health care costs is that the cost of malpractice insurance for doctors and hospitals is built into costs, and then the maximum number of tests are done so every base is covered in anticipation of possible malpractice lawsuits.

Yet in the 2.000-plus pages of the “Obamacare” legislation, there is not one mention of any need for tort reform. Of course not, it was written by lawyers. Until there is real tort reform, there will be no meaningful oversight in the health care market.
