Decomposing body found in Salt Creek near Oak Brook

The badly decomposing body of an unidentified man was found Thursday near Salt Creek in Oak Brook, authorities said.

A person walking along York Road discovered the body about 7 a.m. floating near a wooden walkway that was flooded due to the morning storms. The body was discovered just east of York, across from the Graue Mill and Museum, according to Lt. Howard Oller of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District Police Department.

Authorities recovered a wallet, but were unable to make positive identification of the body.

“Due to the apparent advanced stage of decomposition, it was difficult to ascertain whether the ID in the wallet matched the person,” Oller said. “The body was not in good shape.”

Oller said it’s too early to determine if the circumstances of the death are suspicious.

DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen said an autopsy will be conducted Friday morning.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the forest preserve police and coroner’s office in the investigation.
