New Aldi store opens in Mount Prospect

A new Aldi grocery store opened Thursday in the Mount Prospect Plaza, near the corner of Central and Rand roads.

The store features an updated design, with higher ceilings, improved natural lighting and an emphasis on recycled and environmentally-friendly building materials. Aldi, which operates 1,200 stores in the United States, specializes in offering company-exclusive brands at low prices.

Ross Dress for Less, a discount department store, moved into Mount Prospect Plaza recently, and an LA Fitness health club will move in soon.

Aldi closed an existing store at 730 E. Rand Road. Menards, which has a neighboring store, has bought that space and plans to expand into it, village officials have said.
