Endorsements: Chamberlin, Nerge, Swanson for Dist. 127 school board

The Illinois Association of School Boards views the Grayslake High School District 127 board as a model for others to follow, awarding it the School Board Governance Recognition designation in 2012. Indeed, the district’s budget is in the black, and, unlike in the neighboring Grayslake elementary district and assorted other suburban districts this year, labor relations are good. Incumbents Russell Chamberlin and Suzanne Swanson are seeking another term, and we endorse their bids. Also in the race are Douglas Nerge, a small-business owner, and Scott Gaunky, an administrator in the Lincolnshire-Prairieview school district. Running as a write-in, Nerge won a four-year term on the District 127 school board in 2007 but was not re-elected in 2011. We endorsed him then and endorse him now for the third seat. Gaunky, a political newcomer, is thoughtful and qualified as well, but Nerge gets the nod for his previous board experience.
