U-46 board OKs revised calendar with Aug. 19 start date

The Elgin Area School District U-46 board unanimously voted to approve a 2013-14 school calendar last night that includes a start date of Aug. 19 and will keep students in school on Veterans Day. The Illinois House will break down the issue of carrying concealed firearms into more than two dozen votes in a seldom-used process beginning today. As the plains continues to get pummeled by snow, meteorologists claim the snow will start here around 9 a.m. It should be heavy at times, tapering off later this evening, but not stopping completely until late tonight or tomorrow morning.
