Fund established for recovering Elk Grove High grad
Friends of Shannon Peters, a 2012 Elk Grove High School graduate who remains in critical condition after being hit by a car last week, are trying to raise funds to help the Peters family pay her medical bills.
A fund has been established in Peters' name at Signature Bank. Donations should be made payable to “Friends of Shannon Peters” and mailed to: Signature Bank, 6400 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago, IL 60631.
The 19-year-old Peters, who had returned to Quincy University after a holiday break in Elk Grove Village, was struck by a car on Jan. 7 while crossing a road on campus.
The freshman suffered serious head injuries. She underwent surgery last week to reduce the swelling in her brain and remained in an induced coma.
A CT scan of Peters' brain Tuesday revealed a blood clot in her left frontal lobe, which is building pressure. Doctors might have a short-term prognosis after Peters is taken off sedation today, according to a family member's post in her CaringBridge journal.
Parents Matthew and Mary Peters could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Friends have created a Facebook page to provide encouragement and support to the Peters family. Visit www.facebook.com/FriendsOfShannonPeters.
