Elk Grove grad struck by car in coma after surgery

An Elk Grove High School graduate remains in an induced coma since undergoing brain surgery after being struck by a car on the Quincy University campus, according to friends.

Shannon L. Peters, 19, of Elk Grove Village, who is a freshman at Quincy, sustained serious head injuries when a vehicle hit her at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Peters graduated in 2012 from Elk Grove High School, where she was listed as an ensemble member in the spring 2012 musical, “Godspell,” and participated in speech.

“Our hearts go out to Shannon and her family at this most difficult time,” said Robert Gervasi, president of Quincy University, in a statement.

“We will continue to keep them foremost in our prayers.”

A Facebook page has been set up in support of Peters and for coordinating fundraising for the family to help with her medical bills. The page had more than 400 likes as of Wednesday morning.
