McHenry County judge chosen for Daley nephew’s case

McHenry County Judge Maureen McIntyre will preside over the involuntary manslaughter case of a nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

McHenry County Chief Judge Michael Sullivan selected McIntyre on Friday. His decision came after the Illinois Supreme Court ruled the case should be heard by a judge outside Cook County.

Last month, Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans recused himself to avoid any “appearance of impropriety” that might come from allowing a judge in Cook County, where Daley was so influential for many years, to oversee the case.

Daley’s nephew, Richard Vanecko, is charged in the 2004 death of Mount Prospect resident David Koschman, who died days after he fell and struck his head during a fight with Vanecko outside a Chicago bar.
