Holiday lights may have caused Streamwood fire

Officials are investigating a house fire in Streamwood early Thursday morning that may have been started by holiday lights.

About 12:45 a.m., residents on the 300 block of Laurel Lane discovered smoke, evacuated and called 911.

Streamwood firefighters found a large amount of fire toward the front of the house, which they extinguished quickly, officials said.

The fire damaged the front exterior of the house as well as the roof, but damages to the rest of the home were minimal. Officials estimate damages at $75,000.

The fire appeared to have started on the outside of the building and possibly involved holiday lights, though an investigation into the cause is still ongoing.
