Grand jury indicts Fox Lake man on reckless homicide charge

A Lake County grand jury has indicted a Fox Lake man on reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol charges in connection with an Oct. 1 crash that killed a passenger in his vehicle.

Anthony Cechini, 23, of the 0 to 100 block of N. Lake Street, will appear before Lake County Judge Daniel Shanes on Dec. 20 for arraignment. Cechini, who initially was identified as being from Round Lake but has a mailing address in Fox Lake, remains in Lake County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Authorities said Cechini was westbound on the 100 block of Nippersink Road when the 2004 Subaru he was driving veered off the road and into a tree near the village’s Lakefront Park.

The 4 p.m. crash killed passenger, David J. Letchinger, Jr., 21, of McHenry, authorities said. Letchinger was extricated from the crushed vehicle following the crash and airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he later died.

Authorities said Cechini initially attempted to flee the scene, but was captured.
