Teen slain in Willowbrook-area shooting

An 18-year-old man was fatally shot Monday at an intersection near Willowbrook, police said Tuesday morning.

Authorities identified the victim as Joshua Holmes of Honeysuckle Rose Lane in unincorporated Willowbrook.

Police responded to the area of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Lilac Lane shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday for a report of shots fired.

Witnesses told police they saw someone in a white four-door vehicle approach the intersection, display a handgun and repeatedly fire at the victim. Holmes was taken to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, where he died of his injuries, DuPage County sheriff’s officials said.

“Sheriff’s detectives are investigating leads and it appears that Mr. Holmes was targeted and there is no information to indicate that the community is in danger,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
