New bakery in Mount Prospect specializes in nut-free cupcakes

Nutphree’s Cupcakes is now open in Mount Prospect.

Nutphree’s is a family-owned and operated bakery specializing in delicious cupcakes that are 100 percent free of peanuts and tree nuts.

Owners Brian and Sonia Walker said their family decided to start the bakery out of their own necessity.

“When our son was first diagnosed with a peanut and tree nut allergy, we couldn’t believe how difficult it was to find baked goods that were safe for him to eat,” Brian Walker said. “We found ourselves always having to bake a separate cake or cupcakes anytime we went to a birthday party because we weren’t sure if the baked goods contained safe ingredients or came from a facility that was truly nut-free. That’s when we decided it was time for Nutphree’s,” he said.

Nutphree’s has implemented a code of standards to ensure that their facility remains nut free environment at all times. They do not allow nuts into the facility at anytime and have allergen-free statements from ingredient vendors to ensure their kitchen remains a nut free environment. Nutphree’s owners have done extensive research in finding manufactures that provide nut-free products. This includes everything from flours to sprinkles. They continually stay up-to-date with their products, as some manufactures tend to change their policies.

The bakery is taking phone and online orders, but is still in process of setting operating hours, so call ahead (847) 754-4320 before stopping by. Orders can be placed on Nutphree’s website, www.nutphrees.com.

Nutphree’s Cupcakes is hosting a grand opening at its new facility, 259 E. Rand Road, in Mount Prospect, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. They will have mini cupcake samples, raffles, discounted cupcakes for sale, giveaways and activities for kids.
