Aurora gymnast heading to Olympics as alternate

Aurora resident Anna Li will be heading to the 2012 Olympic Games in London as one of three alternates for the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team.

The 23-year-old Li was selected for the team Sunday night during the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

“There are no words to describe this feeling,” Li posted on her Twitter account @AnnaLi_88 after the securing a spot on the USA team.

A 2006 graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School, Li trains at Legacy Elite Gymnastics LCC in Carol Stream. In 2010, Li led her college team at UCLA to its first NCAA women’s gymnastics title in six years. She was also part of the 2011 World Team.

Both of Li’s parents, Jiani Wu and Yuejiu Li, competed in gymnastics for China in the 1984 Olympics, and they are co-owners and head coaches at Legacy Elite Gymnastics.
