Girl, 11, drowns in pond near Bolingbrook school

An 11-year-old girl died after she was underwater for about an hour in a pond near a Bolingbrook elementary school Tuesday night.

Jordan Oliver, of Bolingbrook, was pronounced dead at the Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital at 8:08 p.m. Tuesday, the Will County Coroner's Office said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, the coroner's office said.

Bolingbrook police and fire crews responded to the pond near Pioneer School about 5:36 p.m. after reports that the girl went under near a foot bridge and did not surface, police said,

Witnesses told ABC 7, the girl jumped in the pond on a dare after a group from the elementary school began daring each other to jump off a bridge into the pond.

Bolingbrook and Naperville dive teams found the girl about 6:30 p.m., according to Bolingbrook police Lt. Mike Rompa.

Emergency personnel immediately began performing CPR, and the girl was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

Witnesses said the victim told her friends she couldn't swim and that the girl was a student at Pioneer Elementary School, according to ABC 7.
