Motorcyclist, 34, dies after Wauconda crash

A 34-year-old motorcyclist died early Sunday night after veering off a roadway and crashing in Wauconda, according to fire department officials.

Eva Grzegorczyk of Chicago was driving on River Road about a half-mile north of Kelsey Road, when, for an unknown reason, she drove off the road and struck a number of trees, according to police.

Grzegorczyk was unconscious at the scene when emergency crews arrived at about 5:20 p.m., said Wauconda Fire District Batallion Chief Bob Rucker.

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was the first to arrive and began administering CPR, but Grzegorczyk died at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital shortly after. The deputy was at the scene within three minutes of the 911 call, Rucker said.

Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey said the cause of the crash was unknown as of about 7:30 p.m.

Grzegorczyk was wearing a helmet and was riding with a second motorcyclist when she crashed, Rucker said.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
