Crystal Lake girl dies from crash injuries

An 8-year-old Crystal Lake girl who was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing the street on her bicycle has died, authorities said Friday.

Rachael Miller was pronounced dead at 5:04 a.m. Friday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

She had been transported there for surgery on Wednesday after being struck while on her bicycle at the corner of North and Millard avenues in Crystal Lake. She was reported to be unconscious and in critical condition after the crash.

Police have previously said there was no evidence the car's driver, a 39-year-old Lakewood man, was at fault since vehicles have the right-of-way at the T-intersection.

“The driver has been cooperating fully with police,” Crystal Lake Police Deputy Chief Gene Lowery said this week. “Unfortunately, it looks like a tragic accident.”
