Suit: Bensenville flood firm ripped off customers

A Roselle man and his Bensenville company scammed homeowners out of thousands of dollars in flood-control work that never happened, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan charged in a lawsuit Thursday.

The complaint filed in Cook County Circuit Court accuses Eveready Flood Control and its president, Patrick Regan, of accepting down payments to install flood control systems, “little to none” of which were completed, authorities said.

The suit asks a judge to bar Regan, of Roselle, from the home repair business, cancel any pending Eveready contracts, order restitution of $7,000, and impose fines totaling $100,000 or more.

Madigan said in a news release that her office already has recovered $3,000 for one consumer caught up in the alleged scam. She encouraged others to “thoroughly scrutinize” home repair contractors before signing agreements.

“Request references and ask for estimates in writing,” she said. “Check with trusted sources like my office’s Consumer Fraud Bureau and the Better Business Bureau.”

Eveready Flood Control is located on the 700 block of County Line Road. Its listed phone number has been changed or disconnected, according to a recorded message.
