Hulke, Carl win Poplar Creek library seats

Challenger Bonnie Hulke beat out incumbent Cheryl Domokos for a seat on the Poplar Creek Library Board, unofficial results show.

With 44 of 45 precincts reporting, incumbent Patricia Carl had the lead with 38 percent, and Hulke came in with 33 percent of the vote. Incumbent Domokos trailed Hulke by more than 3 percentage points. The two open library seats come with 6-year terms.

“I want to bring the library up to new technology. It’s basically behind,” Hulke, 60, said. Hulke hopes to focus on linking the needs of the library patron with resources and services the library provides.

Carl, 73, said she will keep with her conservative financial outlook. “I’m very aware of money being spent and have my option on what not to spend it on.”

Carl, a former bookkeeper, said she always keeps an eye out for expenditures she feels are not justified.

The library has two branches, the main branch in Streamwood and the Sonya Crawshaw branch in Hanover Park.

The district serves 66,000 residents from Elgin, Hanover Park and Streamwood, as well as portions of Bartlett and Schaumburg.
