Cary Police looking for person who stole from Girl Scouts

Cary Police are looking for assistance in catching a thief who stole $417 from a group of Girl Scouts selling cookies in front of Walgreens Saturday.

Cary Police Chief Steven Casstevens said the girls had been selling cookies between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Route 14 and Silver Lake Road.

When they packed up to leave at the end of the day, they noticed their money envelope was stolen.

He said there were no security cameras that caught the theft, so he is looking for witnesses who may have seen the crime.

“It's a shame really that someone would steal from a Girl Scout selling cookies,” he said. “Since then, a local businessman has come forward and wrote a check for $417 to reimburse the girls, and I donated another $417 myself.”

He said anyone who may have witnesses the theft should contact the Cary Police Department at (847) 639-2347.
