Bowman happy to add depth at goalie

DALLAS — Even before Wednesday’s trade with Florida, GM Stan Bowman had talked about the need to improve the organization’s depth in goal after Corey Crawford and Marty Turco.

The Hawks think they picked up a top prospect in Alexander Salak, who came with Michael Frolik in the Jack Skille trade.

Salak is one of the top goalies in the Swedish Elite League for Farjestad BK, where he leads all goaltenders with a .925 save percentage and 6 shutouts. Salak starred in the American Hockey League last season for Rochester, going 29-14-0.

“He’s really come along this season and we’ve been following him closely,” Bowman said. “He’s at that age where goaltenders start to show their capabilities and we think he has a very bright future.

“For us to bring some depth into the organization in goal is something we were looking to do.”

Change it up:Hawks coach Joel Quenneville liked how Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook responded to having new partners at Edmonton.

Keith skated with rookie Nick Leddy and Seabrook was paired with Jordan Hendry in the 4-1 win.

#147;Whether it was balance or we maybe didn#146;t like the way things were going, I think sometimes a fresh look and you discover things,#148; Quenneville said. #147;I think all the pairs had a little more pace to our game.#148;

Tip-ins:The Hawks added some payroll in Wednesday#146;s trade, taking on Michael Frolik#146;s $1.275 million cap hit and shedding Jack Skille#146;s $600,000. According to CapGeek.com, the Hawks still have $275,992 of cap space. #133; Frolik will wear jersey No. 67.
