Dear Superman: Please come to the suburbs

The letter by Annette Kowalczyk that brought Superman to Mount Prospect:

Salutations, Superman:

These days, an “American Idol” is almost like a Superman, and our town of Mount Prospect, Ill., about 30 miles outside Chicago and about 58,000 people, has just had the good fortune of having our Mount Prospect man Lee DeWyze voted on by millions of people to become Mount Prospect's No. 1 “American Idol.” We have a great and vibrant town here, and we are a force in the northwest suburbs.

I personally have lived here 43 years, raised our three children, and our seven grandchildren are nearby. I'm 73 years old, and I still love Superman. My husband isn't jealous. I would love to see Superman strolling along with his iPhone here.

Our community has a small-town flavor, and the people are friendly and inviting. The Daily Herald newspaper would make Clark Kent proud. It keeps us all well-informed of the goings-on and the activities in our town. Our Mount Prospect Library is second to none, and we have a very inspiring writers' group here. There's also a popular comic-book store in town known as Comix Revolution. It's a fun place to go to browse and buy all the DC comic books.

It would be an honor and it would be a pleasure to be included in the story titled “Grounded.”
