Schaumburg house badly damaged in fire

No one was injured in a Schaumburg house fire which appeared to start in the kitchen before traveling up to the attic Sunday afternoon.

Schaumburg firefighters received the call to the 200 block of North Braintree Drive at 1:27 p.m. and found no one in the house, Deputy Fire Chief William Spencer said.

Utility companies shut off electricity and gas to the house, where the fire was controlled within 10 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but a problem with the cooking appliances is suspected, Spencer said.

The house sustained an estimated $150,000 in damage and will be considered uninhabitable at least until such time as power and gas service is restored.
