Mulligan to lead Maine Twp. GOP

Longtime state Rep. Rosemary Mulligan has unseated Maine Township Republican committeeman Mark Thompson, who has held the seat for eight years. With 110 of the 111 of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Mulligan beat Thompson with 3,814 votes to Thompson's 3,256 votes. All totals are unofficial.

Three past presidents of the Maine Township Regular Republican Organization endorsed Mulligan in January - Sean Sullivan, Jim Smith and Nicholas Milissis said in a statement that Thompson had failed to properly lead the organization and increase membership.

On Tuesday, Thompson, of Des Plaines, also lost his bid to unseat Liz "Doody" Gorman of Orland Park in the GOP primary for Cook County Board District 17.
