Vote 'Yes' for access to Winfield library

It is called the Winfield Public Library. That means it should be accessible to everyone. The library was built 1981 and has not been updated or renovated since then.

Did you know? It has no real passenger elevator that meets ADA standards. It has no ADA bathroom for the handicapped. The bathrooms are on the lower level below the front desk and main entrance area of the library.

To reach the main entrance there are many steps or a steep ramp that does not meet ADA standards. Winter snow and ice only makes it worse.

If you are in a wheelchair, on crutches, using a walker or have a cast getting into the library is a real challenge. This applies not only to the elderly but anyone at any age with a permanent or temporary physical handicap. If, with help, you get to the main level and later need to use the restroom or get a book from the lower level you face a challenge again.

This does not meet the standards for accessibility. As a town we can and should do better for our fellow citizens. Vote "yes" for the referendum. The cost is about 11 cents a day for fair access to the library for the day you will need it.
