Mt. Prospect man wants to help O'Brien fight NBC

Hey, Conan, you've had a rough week.

But David Thomas has something that might make you feel better: firejeffzucker.com.

Do with it what you will.

Jeff Zucker is the president and chief executive officer of NBC Universal. Thomas has been a critic ever since Zucker let Katie Couric leave the "Today Show" in 2006.

"I started the site right after the Couric blowup because my wife was so upset," said Thomas, a Mount Prospect resident. "(Zucker) has made some bone-headed decisions. It's been fun to poke fun at some of the bizarre ones."

"America's Got Talent," "Knight Rider" and "Bionic Woman" are just a few, according to Thomas, who offered O'Brien the firejeffzucker.com domain name in an e-mail this week.

So far O'Brien hasn't taken him up on his offer.

"While I'd sell www.firejeffzucker.com to Gawker or another media company, Conan O'Brien, you my friend can have it for free," Thomas wrote on his blog.

"Seriously, our disgust for the mismanagement at NBC turned to apathy a few years back, so instead of letting this site gather dust you can have it to do with what you will. Post embarrassing photos of your boss on it, or former boss. Heck, make your own version of FunnyOrDie under this banner if you don't want to jump back into TV. It's all yours."

Thomas, an editor at cars.com, and his wife, Courtney, have two kids, so he hasn't been blogging much lately. However, this week, about 2,000 new visitors have checked out his site.

"I think a lot of people are Googling 'Fire Jeff Zucker' out of curiosity, and my site is always the first site that comes up," Thomas said. "All of the traffic I'm getting is from Google."

The Conan O'Brien-vs.-Jay Leno battle has reignited Thomas' ire, so he's posted a few clips from this week's late-night shows, with the latest being Jimmy Kimmel's appearance on Thursday's "Leno" show.

When it comes to Leno or O'Brien, the choice is easy, Thomas said.

"(Zucker) should just tell Jay, 'Hey, we made a mistake, why don't you work on something else, like maybe a car show? Conan is our guy now.'"

Zucker could not be reached for comment.
