Local writer recognized for online contributions
Chris Cudworth of Batavia is an established writer, but as he enters new fields he is winning new accolades.
Cudworth is the author of more than 1,000 articles that have been published in newspapers, in magazines and online.
He was recently awarded the Associated Content's 2008 People's Media Award for his article "Coping with Cancer: Getting Past the Fear to Lead a Purposeful Life."
Associated Content is an online news and information Web site.
Cudworth wrote from personal experience. His mother died of cancer several years ago, and his wife Linda has battled ovarian cancer and is now in remission.
"I have friends who have faced cancer, too," Cudworth said. "It's so much a part of everyone's life. I wanted to take my experiences and frame them for others. Everyone has a personal experience, but there are certain commonalities, like dealing with the medical community, and undergoing treatment."
Cudworth's article contained practical advice for patients and their caregivers.
Cudworth said he was even more pleased to receive the December Associated Content award in religion and spirituality.
"It was really gratifying to win for religion and spirituality writing, because I care so much about it," Cudworth said. "I just love to write. I write what is in my head and in my heart."
Cudworth is also the author of "The Genesis Fix: A Repair Manual for Faith in the Modern Age," released by Human Nature Publishing in 2007. The book examines whether the Bible and the Book of Genesis should be taken as literal.
Cudworth is marketing manager for a St. Charles company. He continues to write and is currently revising his book based on feedback he has received from meeting with groups and individuals.
Retreat for women: Women of the Fox Valley area are encouraged to participate in "Crumbs for the Journey," a day of reflection on Saturday, March 14 at St. John Neumann Church, 2900 E. Main St., (Route 64) in St. Charles.
Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. in the Hermes Center, and the day will end with prayer at 12:30 p.m. Donation is $10.
Women can learn how their days are all moments of God's life in us, according to the church.
The leader is Sister Jane Schlosser, a Sister of Mercy and staff member at the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien. She holds a bachelor's degree in sociology, a master's in religious education, a certificate in spiritual direction and a doctorate in ministry.
