Mount Prospect is bursting with holiday activities
Ballet Expressions and Impulse Dance Ensemble, the student dance companies of the Mount Prospect Park District, will present their sixth annual winter showcase titled "Holiday Dances," at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Forest View Educational Center 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.
Tickets are on sale at Lions Recreation Center, 411 S. Maple St., and RecPlex, 420 W. Dempster St. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door.
This year the dance companies are coordinating a food drive for the Mount Prospect Emergency Food Pantry.
"Patrons who make a donation of a nonperishable food item at the time of their ticket purchase will save $1 off the cost of admission - with a limit of $1 savings per ticket purchased," said Teri Wirkus, Mount Prospect Park District Cultural Arts Coordinator.
17th Annual Kate Conlon Tournament: For the 17th consecutive year, St. Raymond School will host an annual basketball tournament this weekend in memory of Kate Conlon, a talented athlete and graduate who died in a tragic car accident in 1991 with two of her friends. Twenty-seven teams from schools around the Chicago area will compete Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12-14, in the field house at the Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights, but the championship games will be played at St. Raymond's gym at the corner of Lincoln St. and I-Oka Avenue in Mount Prospect on Sunday.
Winterim: Oakton Community College in Des Plaines is trying something new this year. They will offer 12 different credit classes for college students who are home for the winter break. The classes range from Intro to Business to Human Development and cover many different departments. Some classes begin as early as Dec. 17 and end as early as Jan. 9 and they do not meet on holidays, holiday eves or weekends. Adopt-A-Child project: Prospect High School will wrap up its annual Adopt-A-Child project next week.
CEDA Northwest provided the school with the names of 70 children from 32 northwest suburban families who need help. Third hour classes, as well as clubs, teams and offices, have been collecting money then buying and wrapping both toys and winter clothing for their child or children. The gifts will be delivered to a local church where the families will pick up the gifts.
Le Peep benefit for library: Le Peep restaurant, 10 E. Northwest Hwy., will donate ten percent of their breakfast, brunch and lunch proceeds this Saturday to the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation. Customers do need to mention the Foundation before placing their orders, however.
