District 211 hosts gifted project expo
Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 invites the public to attend the Gifted Education Project Expo from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 27 at Palatine High School. More than 150 students from all five District 211 high schools have developed projects in areas including aeronautical engineering, musical composition, medicine, original artwork, computer graphics, law, physics, technology, literature, interior design, finance and dance.
The District 211 gifted education program provides an excellent opportunity for community residents to become involved in students' education, serving as mentors. Students work with mentors on projects in their particular fields of interest. Incoming freshman students involved in the gifted education program and their parents are encouraged to attend.
Used book sale will benefit Little City
The Little City Foundation Used Book Sale, the largest event of its kind in Illinois, will take place June 6-15 at Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center, Route 41 and Golf Road, Skokie.
Thousands are expected to check out a lineup of author appearances, book signings and children's activities. Last year, more than 125,000 used books, comics and collectible magazines were sold. There will be an estimated 200,000 books this year.

Massage therapy clinics offered
The massage therapy program at Elgin Community College offers student-run massage clinics open to the public throughout the summer.
Clinics are held on Saturdays in June and July in the massage therapy clinic, Room 214 of the Advanced Technology Center on the Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The fee is $35 for an hour-long session.
Massage therapy clinic III is a course in the final semester of student training designed to provide students with the opportunity to run their own clinical business with ECC supervisory staff on site. Students serve as both office managers and therapists to prepare themselves to enter their chosen profession after passing the national certification exam and obtaining a state of Illinois license.

Milwaukee trip for Barrington seniors
Area seniors are invited to join the Barrington Area Council on Aging and the Barrington Park District for a day trip to Milwaukee June 18. The trip includes tours of the Pabst Theatre, Milwaukee Country Stadium and the Miller Brewery, as well as lunch at the Safe House. Cost for the trip is $80, which includes transportation and all tours. The bus will leave the Barrington Park District at 8 a.m. and return to Barrington around 6 p.m. Seats are limited.
