Library hosts family night
The main Cook Memorial Public Library in Libertyville will host a family reading night on Friday, March 6. The free event will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave. Storytelling, crafts and ice cream sundaes are on the schedule. For more information, go to cooklib.org.
Grayslake show gets special flying equipment
Grayslake High School District 127 will soon receive "flying equipment" for its production of "Peter Pan." Officials said ZFX Flying, the company that designed the equipment used by Cathy Rigby in a national tour of "Peter Pan," will deliver the gear to Grayslake Central High School's theater on Sunday, March 8. ZFX, with offices in California and Kentucky, has extensive experience in theatrical flying. Additionally, local stylist Traci Gable has volunteered to cut Grayslake North High School senior Katy Kennedy's hair in preparation for her role as the title character in "Peter Pan." Kennedy will donate her hair to the Locks of Love charity, which provides hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children who are fighting medical conditions. District 127's "Peter Pan" opens at Grayslake Central's theater on Thursday, March 19 and runs through Sunday, March 22.
Local Ducks make the Top 100
The northeastern Illinois chapter of Ducks Unlimited, based in Antioch, is now ranked in the top 100 in the United States, according to officials at the Ducks Unlimited national headquarters in Memphis, Tenn. The elite 100 list is reserved for chapters that raise the most grass roots money for Ducks Unlimited's habitat conservation work. There are more than 3,500 Ducks Unlimited chapters across in the nation. Local Ducks Unlimited chapters are run by volunteers.
Gurnee Days nominees wanted
Nominations are being sought for this year's Gurnee Days honoree. The individual or couple selected will be honored at a testimonial dinner Thursday, Aug. 13 and serve to lead the Gurnee Days parade Sunday, Aug. 16. To qualify, a person or couple must have provided a meaningful contribution to Gurnee for 10 years or more. The deadline for nominations is March 24. They can be submitted at village hall, the Warren-Newport Public Library or the Gurnee Park District headquarters. For more information or a nomination form, call (847) 244-6699.
