Order shrimp dinner

Orders are due today for the Geneva High School football team's shrimp carryout dinner fundraiser, which is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 13. Dinners include shrimp with cocktail sauce, a baked potato, coleslaw and dinner roll. Orders are $10 apiece. To order, call Rob Wicinski at (630) 463-3929.

Meet mayoral hopeful

Batavia mayoral candidate Britta McKenna has a "Meet and Greet at Water Street" from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Water Street Gallery, 160 W. Wilson St. (next to Panera Bread). Yard signs will be available for pickup. Light refreshments will be provided. For details, visit britta4batavia.org.

School music benefit

Wredling Middle School in St. Charles will have a spaghetti dinner Friday to raise money for the music department. Admission is $5 for seatings at 5 and 6 p.m. The event will feature live music performed by students. Wredling is at 1200 Dunham Road. For more information, call (630) 443-3369.

Scholarship applications

Applications are being accepted for scholarships that Central DuPage Hospital's Auxiliary will award to high school, college and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in health care. To qualify, students must have plans to attend a college, university or graduate program in the fall. They also must document academic excellence, plan to pursue a career in health care and live within Central DuPage Hospital's service area. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available online at cdh.org. The completed application, personal statement, transcripts and reference letters are due by March 31.

Gas bill relief

Funding can be secured to help Fox Valley residents pay for their heating bills this winter. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is accepting applications for those who have not yet applied for benefits since September 2008. This program applies to homes heated with natural gas, electricity or fuel that's delivered. Eligibility is based on the household's combined income. For a household of one, the gross income for the last 30 days must be less than $1,300; for two people, less than $1,750; for three, less than $2,200; for four, less than $2,650 and for five, less than $3,100.
