New parks head for Vernon Hills?:
After being jilted by the preferred candidate, the Vernon Hills Park District has scheduled a special meeting for 7 p.m. Thursday to approve a contract for a new executive director. The district had an agreement with Jan Buchs but the executive director of the Wheeling Park District decided at the last minute to stay put, citing the critical nature of plans in progress at her current job. Another candidate has signed a contract to replace Larry DeGraaf, who resigned after 14 years in the position. "We aren't putting anything out there officially until after Thursday night," said David Doerhoefer, park district board president. The meeting is at the Larry Laschen Community Center, 294 Evergreen Drive.
