STAR Line plan on view:
Arlington Heights officials are hosting a public hearing on the STAR Line project at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Arlington Heights Village Hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road. The STAR Line is a 55-mile commuter rail service that would connect nearly 100 communities from O'Hare International Airport to Joliet. At the meeting residents and businesses can review and comment on the plan, which evaluates development near the proposed Arlington Heights commuter station located east of Arlington Heights Road and adjacent to Interstate 90. Metra's goal is to apply for federal funding this year. The service could begin in 2017.
Arlington holds bicycle swap:
The 28th annual Arlington Bike Swap is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at Centennial Park, 1209 Burr Oak Drive, Arlington Heights, adjacent to Riley School. The Arlington Heights Bicycle Club runs the event like a garage sale. People sell or purchase bicycles and bicycle related items. Sellers set their own prices. Items are accepted for sale between 7:30 a.m. and noon. Purchases can be made between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fees are 10 percent of any sales. Items not sold are returned without charge, but must be picked up by 6 p.m. Bikes and equipment must be in good condition. There is a $10 minimum price for all items. All transaction are cash. Sellers and buyers must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult. Additional information is available at cyclearlington.com.
Job seminar is Saturday:
Organizing Your Job Search is the topic of a seminar 9 a.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Jueck Community Room at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Lincoln at Elmhurst avenues, Mount Prospect. Steve Rosenblum, a human resources professional with DeVry University, will be the keynote speaker. His specialties include: HR leadership and team management; staffing and talent acquisition; and training and development. Preregistration for the free event at henqui.net. Activities and door prizes are planned. The 90-minute presentation will be followed by an hourlong networking session. You can bring handbills and/or business cards to distribute.
Recycling event is Saturday:
An electronics recycling and environmental education event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 25, at the Buffalo Grove Public Works facility, 51 Raupp Blvd., on the corner of Raupp and Lake-Cook Road. They will be collecting computers, monitors, keyboards, speakers, printers and scanners. Unusable equipment is responsibly recycled and all hard drives will be wiped clean. They will accept Sony, Zenith, Goldstar and LG televisions; there will be a $10 disposal fee for other brands. They will collect small electronics such as cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, laptops, gaming consoles and games. There will also be recycling areas for athletic shoes and CFL light bulbs, as well as a mercury thermometer exchange. The event was organized by the Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team, a committee of the Buffalo Grove Park District, which is working with groups that will recycle usable items for use by not-for-profit agencies.
