Lake County briefs
Tobacco check negative:
A recent check of tobacco licenses at 17 establishments in Vernon Hills found that none sold tobacco to a minor, police said. In each situation, a minor attempted to purchase the products under the supervision of a police officer. It was the second consecutive time such checks did not result in a sale to a minor, police said. The department will use a grant of $1,870 from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission to continue the effort regarding minimum-age tobacco laws. In 510 checks conducted since 2000, tobacco sales were refused 95 percent of the time, police said.
