Wronski sisters help Huntley beat BC

Early in the season, teams can improve from half to half.

Both Huntley and Burlington Central felt they played better in the second half, but Huntley made a big first-half advantage stand up for a 5-0 victory in the Huntley girls soccer invite at the Talamore Outdoor Sports Complex.

Corinne Wronski scored twice, and Aimee Wronski had a goal and 2 assists for Huntley (2-0).

"We had better scoring opportunities in the first half, but we played better soccer in the second half," said Huntley coach Kris Grabner. "Our combinations were better, the play was less selfish, and as we start playing like a team, the opportunities are going to come."

Corinne Wronski scored and Alyse Williams connected on a penalty kick in the opening minutes to give the Raiders' defense all the cushion it needed.

Emily Konior scored on a header before halftime, taking advantage of a nice cross from Aimee Wronski.

Huntley dominated play in the first half. The Raiders created several scoring chances but often missed the net.

The Raiders started to find the range after the break, but Central goalkeepers Kat Solberg and Kirby McMahon made some nice saves. Each Wronski added an insurance goal in the closing minutes for the Red Raiders.

The Rockets also elevated their game as they went along in their season opener.

"From the first half to the second half, my team was a different team," said Rockets' coach Mike Gecan. "I thought they played much better. It's our first game."

Central sweeper Cara Martini made some nice plays to keep the Red Raiders at bay.

Solberg stopped Konior twice early in the second half, and Konior rocketed another shot off the crossbar.
