Teen charged as adult in Hanover Park shooting
The 15-year-old arrested in Saturday's gang-related shooting in Hanover Park has been charged as an adult, prosecutors said.
Jesus Freyre, of the 1900 block of Evergreen Avenue in Hanover Park, is next scheduled to appear in court on April 3, the Cook County state's attorney's office said.
Judge Jill Marisie set bond Monday at $100,000. Freyre was taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago Saturday and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, police said. That charge has now been automatically transferred so Freyre can be charged as an adult.
If convicted of the felony charge, he faces six to 30 years in prison.
Authorities say Freyre shot an 18-year-old Streamwood man Saturday afternoon near Sycamore Road and Church Street. Police said Freyre flashed a gang sign at the victim, who was in a car, and then shot at the victim when he didn't respond to the gesture.
The victim was wounded in the left arm, and was treated at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. The wound was considered non-life-threatening, but there's no word if the victim had been released from the hospital.
Police recovered the gun at an abandoned home, authorities said.
