District 50 forum

Candidates seeking posts on the Woodland Elementary School District 50 board will meet tonight in a forum in Gurnee. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Woodland Intermediate School, 1115 N. Hunt Club Road. The discussion will be moderated by a representative from the League of Women Voters. Seven candidates are seeking four seats on the board.

April in Paris, Lake Villa

The Kids Hope United's 6th Annual Blue Ribbon Fashion Show happens on April 19 at the Lehmann Mansion, 485 Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa. This year's theme is "April in Paris." The fundraiser will feature a Parisian market theme, bistro-inspired menu, wine tasting and fashion show. The event is being held in recognition of April as "Child Abuse Prevention Month." Creative writing contest

The Cook Memorial Public Library District's "Be Inspired! Third Annual Creative Writing Contest" is underway. Children in grades 4 to 8 who live or attend school in the Cook Memorial Public Library District can submit their piece of creative writing by March 20 at any Cook Memorial Public Library District facilities or the student's school library. One entry per student. Winners will be invited to an ice cream reception with award-winning author Jim Aylesworth, author of "Hush Up!" "Our Abe Lincoln," and "Little Bitty Mousie." Schiavo attorney to speak

David Gibbs III, the lead attorney in the Terri Schiavo case will speak at the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church, 60 Quentin Road, Lake Zurich, on March 15 at 6 p.m. Schiavo was disconnected from life support after a contentious legal battle in 2005. Gibbs works with the Gibbs Law Firm and the Christian Law Association defending the rights of churches and Christians nationwide as a legal missionary. Fore more information, call (847) 438-4494
