Stone's in as Mundelein football coach
Bob Stone, currently the athletic director at West Chicago, has been selected as the new head football coach at Mundelein.
Stone, who will also teach in the wellness department, replaces Dave Whitson, who resigned as head football coach after four years in that position.
Stone was head football coach at West Chicago from 1997-2006 when he became the school's athletic director. Prior to his West Chicago experience, Stone taught and coached all levels of football at Joliet Catholic. His overall coaching record is 104-73.
Some of the highlights of Stone's career include:
• 2002 Class 7A state qualifier
• 1992 and 1994 Class 5A second-place finishes
• 1990 Class 4A state championship
• 1989-1996 state qualifiers
• 1989 Class 5A semifinals
• East Suburban Catholic Conference champions in 1989, '90, '91, '92 and '95
An interview team of seven from Mundelein was unanimous in its selection of Stone for the job. According to MHS athletic director Perry Wilhelm, the choice was an easy one.
"Everyone on the interview team was impressed with Bob's experience, his outstanding successes and especially his integrity and character," Wilhelm said. "We're looking forward to having Bob Stone as an integral part of our athletic department."
