Pageant offers scholarships:

Several area high school students will be among those competing for a share of $10,000 in the 2009 Illinois Junior Miss Scholarship Program April 4 at Bolingbrook High School. The 12 contestants will vie for the title of state Junior Miss, who will win a $3,500 cash scholarship and a choice of college scholarships to four-year schools across the country. The state winner also will represent Illinois in the national finals June 25-27 in Mobile, Ala., where she will compete for a share of more than $150,000 in scholarships and the national title. Last year's state winner was Heather Siemienas of Arlington Heights.

Food wanted for pantries:

The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn will collect food and contributions for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and Milton Township Food Pantry between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 4. Donations will be received at the Jewel, Dominick's and McChesney-Miller in Glen Ellyn. Special pickups also can be set up by calling Glenn Scott at (312) 318-7983 on April 4 or during the week before.

Professor to be remembered:

Aurora University will hold a gathering to remember Sheldon Stahl, a former Aurora resident and faculty member, who died March 5 in Kansas City. The public is invited to a memorial at noon March 25 in Lowry Chapel in Eckhart Hall, 347 S. Gladstone Ave., Aurora. Stahl served in the university's Dunham School of Business from 1993 to 2003 as professor of business and economics.
